Conference

Great conference with Rick. Over 200 leaders showed up for the day. People were buzzing, thinking and being challenged. Rick was well received and was appreciated for his wisdom, wit and more importantly his heart.

We used the give em the bag outreach to help apply what we were learning. Occasionally, I have a mild panic attack when speaking, so sure enough the ripple was felt in my soul,(i had restarted some meds and the side affects are: panic, anxiety, tremors etc. Duh? I thought it was more physiological than psychological) I recovered and led the download / feedback time and things went well.

I gave away 3 books, 2 by Rick the Externally Focused Church, the Externally Focused Life(which is a title change of Life On Loan) and God Space by Doug Pollock.

Elizabeth Worms led the day and as usual did a great job.

I believe we are at the forward end of the bell curve... the mid to late adapters are now embracing the serving movement. It's clear that the movement is spreading around the world and is even becoming highlighted in our culture.

Pretty excited about this upcoming conference. Rick is a great speaker, inspiring, visionary leader. We will be joining other church leaders in the city. Perhaps we will be motivated to reach out to our community together.

Super Saturday Free FleaMarket

here are some pictures from the day. It was a blast. 40 people like army ants carrying out the goods to be placed in the parking lot. We adjusted on the fly and really had a good time. Most goods were gone by 12pm as planned. We then loaded up truck with 14 large boxes of left overs to be taken to Goodwill who will exchange for clothing vouchers for the needy of our area. Huge fun. 200 man hours sorting + very generous Vineyard people = good time had by all.

Joseph Project Super Saturday Free Flea Market

whoa....what an idea!

We've been gathering stuff...lot's of stuff, clothes, furniture, nick nacks, furniture and various odds an ends for a Flea Market Saturday...

I'm amazed by the genorosity of the Vineyard people. Rich, poor, in between all bringing their goods to the Vineyard. We've been sorting, moving, gathering getting ready for Saturday...should be enough chaos to keep everyone hopping.

Each person can receive 5 pieces of clothing per family person, 2 pieces of furniture, 3 house holds and enough stuff to keep the buzz going until we run out.

Party time, hotdogs, hamburgers, bouncy castle and lot's of smiling Vineyardites. Should be interesting...pics to follow.

Extreme Makeover

We were asked to participate in the Extreme Makeover. Home Edition...The mayor asked if 5 churches would take on the task of providing water, helping people on an off the shuttle buses and answer basic questions. We were asked to serve on the reveal day. A Big Day and a Big Deal!

Pattie and I went to the site on the second day to check out what we were to do and more importantly, see first hand the site and the task. (tip:if you are planning an event, or doing an outreach not on your property...always, always go and check out the site.) We asked questions, observed and generally figured out what we were supposed to do. When we asked how are you giving water away? the reply was, we only give water to those who ask.

In our neck of the woods, we always hold out water for people to receive especially on a very hot day. So we knew we'd have to bring water much.

When we arrived at 7am people were already lined up. Some came at 4:30am. When we arrived the buses started rolling and we loaded 50 people per bus, as safe and as orderly as we could. This task flowed well.

About 8am some Blue shirt Walgreen people showed up. They asked, 'Can we give out water with you guys we have 66 cases of water?' We of course said yes. After talking to the Walgreen team it seems they wanted to give back to the community, the way you guys do at the Vineyard.

The serving day was a blast. 2500 bottles of water given, we loaded and unloaded the many, many buses. Helped people, carried their stuff, helped mom's with their strollers, and the bulky baby stuff. It was more than fun. We served well, the home was completed, people arrived back and we helped clear the parking lot. All in the 12 hr day of serving. Our team was positive, humorous, and helpful. A great day to serve our communty.

Food Pantry Launch

WoW! What a weekend!

We launched the Beavercreek Joseph Project Food Pantry this weekend and the foundations are being laid for our new worship center. I had the opportunity to speak on the weekend. The Mayor and a County Commissioner were on hand for the dedication and the ribbon cutting. People were positive by the up-market look of the pantry and why we are doing what we are doing. One man was so moved he is going to give one of his cows for 600 lbs of gound beef. Must purchase Freezer.

On the weekend we looked at one Jesus principle. Begin with what you have, from where your are.

Our two leaders began almost 20 years ago beginning with what they had from where they were.

In Dayton, only thing they had were their jobs. So they pulled their resources. They each tithed 10% of their pay check. Then they purchased 7 bags of groceries and went to a low income apartment and gave away the bags and offered prayer.

Years later we are serving over 300 breakfasts a week to the less served of our city. The church has grown to 2500 and we are touching thousands of lives each year through acts of kindness and prayer.

I wonder what it would look like if every believer, began to serve others from where they are with what they have? I think their world would change.

“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.” James 3:13 (NIV)

1. Beginning of Jesus’ ministry.

He began with what He had from where He was.

A wedding... Mom said, 'Now is your time', Jesus now is not my time...He heard His Father’s voice...(my paraphrase in reading into the text. Jesus only did what he heard and saw his Father doing) His Father said, 'Now is your time.

He began with what He had, water. He then changed water to wine. Beginning from where He was with what He had, God space was created where God things happened... Wine was created from water. From this beginning, He began to reveal who He was, and revealed His Fathers Glory. There the Disciples believe in Him..

2. Middle of Jesus Ministry.

Matt 10 John the Baptist was beheaded...

Jesus was connected to John in a special way. John was in the womb of Elizabeth when Mary, pregnant with Jesus, greeted Elizabeth, John lept with Joy in Elizabeth's womb. They were cousins, divinely linked to the spark of the Holy Spirit. They were friends, brothers. Jesus loved John. Now John was beheaded. Jesus was grieved, gutted (a good Scottish word) and went to a lonely place. Ever experienced grief over the loss of a love one? Most people want to go to a lonely place to recover, to pray, to receive comfort from the Great Comforter...

Suddenly 5000 people showed up. Jesus beginning from where He was... taught the people, cared for them in the midst of this great tradgety.

All day they stayed...as he taught them...the disciples said, 'Tell them to go home, they’ve been here all day and they are hungry.' Jesus... 'You give them something to eat.' Their response...'All that is here is a sacked lunch of 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish.' Jesus, 'Tell them to sit down'... Jesus broke bread and fish and gave to the disciples they in turn fed the people. He again used what He had from where He was.

3. At the Cross the end of His life.

Hanging on the cross, He was stripped bare, facing death, enduring shame, and the sin of the world was upon Him. From were he was, he used what he had... his breath, and his voice. He uttered, 'Father forgive them for they know not want they do.'.. From where He was He used what He had....an act of forgiveness that has echoed throughout the centruries into eternity.

Others beginning from where they were, offered this forgiveness to other and have changed the world. Mother Thersa, DL Moody, Chales Finney, Billy Graham and countless thousands are using what they have, from where they are...making a difference offering forgiveness found in Jesus name.
